I've worked in the bridging/transpartisan space for many years, including efforts to help build a new constituency -- a third side to use William Ury's language -- a new political force. Have you seen the recent piece by Diana Smith?
if we are not actively fostering consensus on solutions to our common problems, we're just adding to the noise. let's meet in The Big Middle, where most Americans are, and agree on what positive steps we are prepared to take together to keep our Republic for future generations
Excellent post. A few points that could be of interest to readers:
- Regarding the 80% Party, there's Similarity Hub (similarityhub.org) built with between my organization More Like US (morelikesus.org) and AllSides (allsides.com) with ~700 instances of common ground across the political spectrum. There's also a new site built separately called Americans Agree (https://www.americans-agree.org/).
- In terms of interaction with the Red side, one of our co-founders is Ann Schockett, a recent past president of the National Federation of Republican Women.
