Excellent reminders—as a proud (demonized) democratic Democrat in a redder state, I can say these healthy “ dueling devils” sit on my shoulders. These work well the majority of days — the others are for the good scotch. 🥃

As for Sheila’s comment about focusing locally|internationally and not nationally — thinking strategically is important. Meaning, leveraging power for our values may happen outside of our immediate communities and your support may necessarily flow beyond those parameters you set. Follow Arkadi Gerney & Norm Eisen to see that in action.

This is an excellent. We'd like to suggest an exercise we wrote about a couple of months ago, but it has largely been ignored: "Thinking about What Democracy's Winners and Losers Owe One Another." It's url is https://beyondintractability.substack.com/p/newsletter-256.

Sorry I missed this at the time! It is excellent! (Which is what we say when we totally agree with stuff 😀.) It is indeed the golden rule, the positive side of a more negative framing which says "Don't forget the shoe might be on the other foot" (it always amazed me how winners forget that on a regular basis.)

The first thing I need to do is stay off of social media. My stomach turns every time I see a family member or friend post something about Trump. I find it offensive as if they are shoving their victory in my face. Other than that, I really don’t know how or what to do at this point. I read the article but I’m someone who needs directions, lol. Give me a list of what to do and what not to do and I’ll do my best to follow it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate your thoughts on coming together. Unfortunately I don’t think that is the course of action that I or many will take. My view is to let supporters of the opposition feel the pain of their choices. Living in a very blue area, I have decided to withhold any support financial or otherwise that is not local. If it is national, I have canceled any ongoing contributions or support of any type. I feel that my local area and international needs will take precedence. Those who valued a few dollars less in their gas tank over the rights of others do not deserve any consideration from me. As someone said very well, it’s no longer about his character. It’s about those who support him.
